Frame Expansions Quantized with Permutation Codes

چکیده
Quantized frame expansions are overcomplete representations of signals approximated by some quantizer. This scheme proved to be a very useful tool to combat quantization noise and erasures. Normally, a scalar quantizer is used in the quantization phase. In this paper we investigate the use of permutation codes, a beautiful source coding technique, as a quantizer. We explore consistent reconstructions for the new scheme and provide an algorithm to achieve this type of reconstruction. A variety of necessary and sufficient conditions on the frame for the linear reconstruction to be also consistent are derived.

Quantized Frame Expansions as Source-Channel Codes for Erasure Channels
Quantized frame expansions are proposed as a method for generalized multiple description coding where each quantized coe cient is a description Whereas previous investigations have revealed the robustness of frame expansions to additive noise and quantization this represents a new application of frame expansions The performance of a system based on quantized frame expansions is compared to that...
متن کاملSigma-Delta quantization of sub-Gaussian frame expansions and its application to compressed sensing
Suppose that the collection {ei}i=1 forms a frame for R, where each entry of the vector ei is a sub-Gaussian random variable. We consider expansions in such a frame, which are then quantized using a Sigma-Delta scheme. We show that an arbitrary signal in R can be recovered from its quantized frame coefficients up to an error which decays root-exponentially in the oversampling rate m/k. Here the...
متن کاملQuantized Overcomplete Expansions in IRN: Analysis, Synthesis, and Algorithms
Coefficient quantization has peculiar qualitative effects on representations of vectors in IR with respect to overcomplete sets of vectors. These effects are investigated in two settings: frame expansions (representations obtained by forming inner products with each element of the set) and matching pursuit expansions (approximations obtained by greedily forming linear combinations). In both cas...
متن کاملTurbo Decoding of Multiple Descriptions with Quantized Frame Expansions
We address the joint use of a heterogeneous source of redundancy in a coding chain: multiple description coding and channel coding where the redundancy on the source symbols and on the transmitted bits are generated by quantized frame expansions and convolutional coding, respectively. The received signal is viewed as the noisy output of a serial concatenated coding system, and a turbo-type deco...
متن کاملCharacterization of a Class of Error Correcting Frames for Robust Signal Transmission over Wireless Communication Channels
Joint source-channel coding has been introduced recently as an element of QoS support for IP-based wired and wireless multimedia. Indeed, QoS provisioning in a global mobility context with highly varying channel characteristics is all the most challenging and requires a loosening of the layer and source-channel separation principle. Overcomplete frame expansions have been introduced as joint so...
